Kinless Chronicles blog posts

Well, that’s us.

“Another 100,000 Beta Invites Sent to Annual Pass Holders.” Woot.  (At first I thought it was the usual account hacker come on for a free mount.) But it’s legit.  Expected, at some point.  Nice. Next post will be of some

Merry Christmas everyone

So I moved to North Dakota expecting some snow this Christmas.  Turned out I picked the wrong border.  The southern border was the place to be for snow.  I’m sure they are wishing they didn’t have all that snow down there, and

Getting cold.

Happy Thanksgiving, speaking of getting cold. I can also say the same of my iMac.  Apparently, they say, the hard drive went out.  No problem, we’ll replace the drive.  Call back, “Where’s my computer?”  ”All

Just when I thought I was out…

they, Blizzard, pull me back in. Well, us actually.  The annual deal gets us 1) into the beta for the new expansion, and 2) Diablo III.  The wife was always going to get Diablo III.  There’s this cool looking flying mount.  We

Until the expansion then.

We spent the evening lifting the last of the fog of war in our final maps in Telaria, the world of Rift. And then we logged off in the Faceless Man’s laboratory. Neelhtak, here waving, has a sad look on her face. It’s time, however, to get

Sneakers broken?

It occurred to me the other night, as I ran through Bree, that in the real world I’d never run like that.  From the bank to the hobby shop.  I could.  I’ve got shoes.  I could make the run.  But I don’t. Likewise,

Best served chilled.

This screenshot does not do the actual graphics justice.  The ice here in Iron Pine Peak is so well done.  The frozen lake, with the craters of shattered ice, and the semi-visible sunken ice sheets and ships is simply awesome. The architecture

Nightswimming at the Mines of Moria

Finally we get to the Mines of Moria, the wife and I. Here is Giselher, waiting for the Watcher to makes his appearance, awed by the harvest moon.  (Maybe you dwarves can throw a few more rocks, you fools.) Regarding the actual quest, they force

There and back again.

LotRO’s next expansion is announced: Rise of Isengard™. I went Free-to-Play with LotRO months ago.  The wife has maintained her VIP account. What caught my eye about the announcement was the pre-order perks (which were available

Interesting: Rift UI

I visited WoW UI every day.  I’d visit even if I wasn’t going to log on.  Just to make sure my addons were up to date, and see what might be new. Apparently, as of yesterday, Trion has released the start of API documentation, and

He said the sheriff’s near.

Rock Ridge is only the best looking Wild, Wild West game location I’ve ever seen. It’s called the Scarlet Gorge for good reason. Never mind all the undead mining for sourcestone under the whips of their Endless Court masters. Scarlet Gorge

Asymmetrical.

Ages past there was a tribe of Elves who called themselves “Children of the Stars” in their native tongue.  Their feral traits, dusky skins, and dark hair gained them the name “Night Elves.”  The Night

It’s time.

Once you get your hands on Rift, and just create a character, and see how well it plays DESPITE being so graphically rich and intense, you realize how OLD World of Warcraft looks. Here’s a screenshot of my level 27 Warrior. He’s not wearing

2nd Acts in Rift

So after spending some time as Defiant in Stonefield we’ve now changed scenes by taking our Guardians into Gloamwood.  Both are the level 20-25 areas. Stonefield feels very “Scottish Highlands” to me, with the green yet stony hills

Three weeks with Rift (and plenty more to go)

I’ve really been enjoying Rift, playing since Headstart began on the 24th of February, and here it’s 13 March. I’ve leveled one character to level 20.  Three to level 16 or so.  The Level 20 has finally left the first zone

Rift does Elf ears right.

I offer up two screen shots showing off identical helms on different races. This is an Eth (Human) in a plate helm.  (My two-hander wielding Champion.) This is a High Elf in the same plate helm.  (My sword-and-board Paladin.) I noticed it earlier

Rift is great.

I’ve required a machete to carve through cigarette smoke in a cyber-cafe in Heidelberg, just so I could play World of Warcraft on a laptop.  It was summer, no air-conditioning, smoke everywhere, and I had to get my fix in. My Warcraft account

More Rift in the final Beta

A recent comment asked for a screenshot.  I’m a bit delinquent in getting a couple, but here they are. I logged in this morning and noted “Everything’s orange.  Hmm.”  Wow.  Everything was really, really

Rift Beta

I’ll get to the Rift beta.  But first, this… Currently, as one of the more erudite bloggers may have said, I can’t really be arsed about Cataclysm lately. I’ve done the math.  In order for my leatherworker to create

A month with Cataclysm

What have I been up to this past month with the latest expansion? Well, I’ve taken two characters to Level 85. On his own, my hunter, Arcarius, and with my wife, my warrior, Msaker.  And reaching that goal couldn’t have … Continue

Many miles to the milestone

Zoiks.  I missed a milestone. I was looking at the archives in the sidebar to the right, and I noted I’d posted in December 2010 *and* December 2005.  Five years I’ve been posting here. Wow. Anyway, I’m saving up some …

Yep, a Zep.

This years Christmas present way made up for last years lame Red Rider BB Gun. It’s a Zeppelin.  That you fly.  In 3D.  With a gun that shoots other zeppelins, and other devices too apparently.  It leaves air mines.  It’s

Waterlogged, but safe. Too safe?

My Alliance Hunter, not part of a duo with the wife, took the lead in exploring some of the new content opened up when Deathwing and the Naga decided to wake up and cut loose. At level 82 and a … Continue reading →

First week (or so) with the new expansion

The water is cool.  The underwater is very scenic.  The solutions to movement underwater very nicely done.  (We live in a magical world, after all.) So far my Hunter has gone solo and gotten to the heady heights of level … Continue

Dream on, Thrall. Dream on.

Pretty human girl by his side that’s not all conflicted with her bad boy male friends? Check. Flying colors while flying?  Check. Knife fight with Deathwing going down?  You can double check that factoid. Oh, yeah, Martek’s got it

Giving it away?

Usually these expansions come in 2 year cycles.  We’re base game + 2 expansions and six years.  World of Warcraft, Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King. The 6th anniversary message from Blizzard to the characters, found in the mailboxes

WoW 2.0

It’s amazing the changes wrought.  From the towns to the surroundings to the mounts. Imagine my surprise when I realized my less played Draenei Paladin now has an Elekk to ride.  One which is much, MUCH, better looking that a … Continue

Also known as Veteran’s Day in the U.S. and Remembrance Day in the U.K. and commemorating the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on
